This morning, Ambassador Hussein Awad Ali, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Mrs. Retno Marsudi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Indonesia for the humanitarian and medical aid provided during the war, noting that it reflects the sincere and historic brotherhood between the two countries.
The Minister explained that the ongoing war in Sudan has been imposed on the country by regional and international forces that are supporting the Janjaweed militia with weapons and logistical assistance, enabling them to kill and displace Sudanese citizens. He affirmed that the armed forces, backed by the Sudanese people, are fulfilling their national duty to protect the citizens and have managed to break the rebellion’s strength, leaving only a few pockets of resistance. Despite this, he emphasized that the Sudanese government remains open to fair and peaceful solutions based on the agreement signed last May in Jeddah, which obligates the militia to withdraw from civilian homes and facilities—a condition the militia has yet to fulfill. Meanwhile, regional forces are seeking another platform to circumvent the agreement.
For her part, Mrs. Retno Marsudi affirmed that the historical ties between the two countries compel Indonesia to stand by Sudan in its time of crisis. She expressed her hope that Sudan will soon witness lasting peace and stability. She also noted that negative interventions could further complicate the conflict, expressing her hope that the war in Sudan will come to an end as soon as possible.
