Press Release

His Excellency Ambassador Hussein Awad Ali, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in the “Summit of the Future” today, September 22, 2024, at the United Nations headquarters in New York, representing His Excellency the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council. He was accompanied by Ambassador Harith Idris Harith, the Permanent Representative of Sudan to the United Nations, Ambassador Anas Al-Tayeb Al-Jilani, Director General of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and members of Sudan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

The Summit of the Future held its sessions today under the theme “Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,” on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The sessions will continue through tomorrow, September 23, 2024.

At the outset of the meeting, the Summit of the Future’s document was adopted by consensus. This document is a global commitment reflecting the spirit of multilateralism and respect, representing a comprehensive charter for reforming the international system and financial institutions, particularly the Security Council. It also addressed the Sustainable Development Goals, poverty eradication, bridging the digital divide between developing and developed countries, the need to tackle climate change, and the importance of addressing youth issues and their future.

In his statement at the summit, His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs addressed the developments in Sudan, particularly the aggressive war waged by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) against the Sudanese people, listing some of the crimes committed by the militias and calling for international condemnation.

He also stressed the importance of adhering to international commitments related to small arms and other weapons, including the prohibition of supplying arms and ammunition to terrorist groups and rebel militias that challenge the legitimacy of the state, especially in cases of armed conflict, in line with the spirit of the Summit of the Future document, which calls for creating a world free from wars.
