Press Statement
The Government of Sudan expresses its profound dismay and firm rejection of the sanctions imposed by the United States Department of the Treasury on the Director General of the Sudanese Defence Industries System.
The Government further denounces the justification offered by the US Administration of the decision, that is in response to the Sudanese Armed Forces’ acquisition of weapons, as both unjust and illogical. This is because the fundamental responsibility of national armies is to safeguard their homelands and citizens, equipping themselves with all necessary means to fulfill this duty. Without such a capability, security, peace, and stability at national, regional, and international levels, can never be guaranteed
This decision illustrates that the US Administration is still keeping a blind eye towards the ongoing influx of weaponry and mercenaries to the terrorist militia, which enables its to pursue its war against the people of Sudan. In so doing, the Administration ignores overwhelming evidence abound in both the international and US arenas, and the repeated calls from US legislators for decisive measures against the Militia’s sponsors, responsible for prolonging and perpetuating the war. Instead, the Adminstrration seeks to deprive the SAF of the capabilities that empower it to protect civilians from genocide, ethnic cleansing, and unprecedented atrocities committed by the Militia.
Attempts by the US Administration to pretend neutrality between SAF and Militia would not absolve it from its share of moral and political responsibility of the continuation of massacres and atrocities inflicted upon Sudanese civilians by the terrorist militia, as currently witnessed in Eastern Al-Jazirah and Al-Butana.
