THE REPUBLIC OF THE SUDAN

MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

DEPARTMENT OF MEDIA AND SPOKESPERSON

Press Release

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ambassador Hussein Awad Ali, confirmed that the Sudanese Armed Forces are capable of defeating the rebellion. He stated that the reason for the continuation of this imposed war on Sudan is the ongoing logistical and political support that the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia receives from regional and international countries. This statement was made during his speech at the conclusion of the conference held today, Monday, August 5, 2024, in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, entitled “Sudan: The Forgotten War.” The conference was graced by the presence of the Honorable Muhammad Hassan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, along with a group of Sudanese and Malaysian academics and experts, and attended by members of the foreign diplomatic corps in Malaysia.

In his speech, the Minister emphasized that Sudan is committed to the Jeddah Platform as the sole venue for negotiations and the necessity of implementing its outcomes and enforcing decisions to protect civilians as a precondition for reaching a final ceasefire agreement. He also noted that Sudan looks forward to Malaysia’s role in urging certain regional countries to stop supporting the rebels and supplying them with weapons and mercenaries. He called on the international community, especially brotherly and friendly countries including Malaysia, to condemn the rebel militias and classify them as a terrorist organization.

Furthermore, the Minister reiterated Sudan’s commitment to delivering aid to those in need, in contrast to the militia that loots aid in the areas it controls. He appealed to the international community and relief organizations to fulfill their commitments and provide the necessary food and medical assistance. The Minister also thanked the Malaysian government for the special program for Sudan, through which Sudanese citizens were granted exceptional residency.
