Today, the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, headed to China, leading the Sudanese delegation participating in the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit. The summit is being hosted in the Chinese capital, Beijing, from the 4th to the 6th of this month, with the participation of several African leaders, heads of regional and international organizations, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres.
At Port Sudan International Airport, he was seen off by Sovereignty Council member, Engineer and Naval Adviser, General Ibrahim Jaber, and the Secretary-General of the Sovereignty Council, General Mohamed Al-Ghali Ali Yusuf.
During the summit, the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council will hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping to enhance avenues of cooperation and establish strategic partnerships between the two countries in various fields, in addition to discussing matters of mutual interest. Several bilateral agreements in different sectors will also be signed between the two sides.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council will meet with several presidents and heads of delegations to strengthen mutual interests, advance relations to broader horizons, and create strategic partnerships between Sudan and those countries.
It is worth noting that the forum, held under the theme “Joining Hands to Enhance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future,” will explore opportunities and areas of cooperation between African countries and China. The forum’s activities will include four high-level meetings focusing on state governance, industrialization and agricultural modernization, peace and security, as well as high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. The summit’s agenda also includes the 8th Conference of Chinese and African Entrepreneurs, and the adoption of two final documents, one being a declaration and the other an action plan, aimed at building significant consensus between the two sides and charting a path for the implementation of high-quality China-Africa cooperation over the next three years.
Accompanying the Chairman during the visit are Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Awad, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, and Acting Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mohyeddin Naeem Mohamed Saeed.
