New York, 25th September 2024
Today in New York, the Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, met with the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, on the sidelines of the ongoing United Nations General Assembly.
During the meeting, Al-Burhan briefed the UN Secretary-General on the crimes, violations, and atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against innocent civilians, as well as their targeting of infrastructure, hospitals, and public facilities. He emphasized the need for the international community to clearly condemn these violations, especially since they target defenseless civilians.
Al-Burhan also affirmed the Sudanese government’s cooperation with international and regional humanitarian organizations, providing all necessary support to facilitate the passage of humanitarian convoys and the delivery of aid to those in need. He noted the government’s approval to open the Adré border crossing with Chad to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected by the war.
For his part, the UN Secretary-General called for an end to the war and the suffering of the Sudanese people, urging dialogue as a means to resolve the conflict in Sudan. He also commended the Sudanese government’s cooperation in delivering humanitarian aid to those impacted by the war.
